Hilltop Conservancy
General Meeting
July 27, 2005
Meeting Minutes

Meeting called to order at 7:35pm.

First order of business was ratifying the minutes from the January 15, 2004 general meeting. There was enough attendance at the meeting to have a quorum of 2005 paid members. There was a motion to ratify the minutes and the motion was seconded. Ratifying these minutes helps the conservancy properly organize as a non-profit organization.

Next item discussed was the conservancy’s logo. Idea’s for the logo were being forwarded to the logo designer and samples of these logo’s should be ready to be presented at the August meeting. After all samples have been presented, then the group can narrow down the choices and ultimately decide what the logo should be.

Theresa gave a PowerPoint presentation on the meadow restoration project. The picture packed presentation was broken down so the conservancy could visualize the steps that need to be taken to undergo this project.

    Presentation included:
  • Implementation time planning
  • Site Preparation
  • Herbicide Applications
  • Seeding
  • Overall Site Monitoring
  • Project Management
  • Project Funding
The presentation sparked a lot of discussions and questions. All questions were addresses and answered. It was agreed by all that the Hilltop is a prime location for a meadow restoration. The foreign invasive plants that exist on the Hilltop must be tackled or they will eventually crowd out and eliminate the few native species that remain. It may take 20-30 years, but habitat degradation is inevitable unless we address the problem and start eliminating the invaders soon.

Other items:

  • Trail maintenance day on 8/2 at 5:30pm.
  • Pat brought up the idea of having trail maps published. All agreed that we need to have access points solidified before maps can be displayed and handed to the public. Maps can be sketched now and adding the access points when they are verified will help us be ready when that time comes.

    Meeting adjourned at 9:00pm.

Minutes prepared by Secretary: Brian Glennon
