Meeting Minutes

Meeting called to order at 7:30pm.

Old business

The meeting started with an update on the trail system in the Hilltop reservation. Geordie explained the recent trails that have been marked and cut and also talked about future trails that will be worked on. He said that there are approximately 2 miles of trails that are now able to be walked in the reservation. Charlie defined some trail names and markers for the trails.

The logo samples and review session is being postponed to a future meeting.

New business

The remainder of the meeting was spent on a very beneficial presentation given by Lois, Larry and Nick who represented Friends of Clark’s Pond and Third River Conservancy(FCP&TR). Their conservancy has been in existence for 8 years and major accomplishments have been made.

    The presentation included:
  • brief history of Clark’s Pond and Third River
  • description of land and habitats
  • funding sources
  • major goals
  • future projects
The information presented to our conservancy was extremely helpful since we are still in the infant stage of existence. Lois guided our group through Clark’s Pond and the Third River via a power point presentation. We got to see wonderful pictures of their nature preserve and the habitats that are present. There were also pictures of projects done from beginning to completion which is gratifying to see.

The funding sources and major goals were two very helpful parts of the presentation. The FCP&TR conservancy utilized several sources for funding. We learned that if a park has water on it’s property there are more sources to go to for funding. Some of their funding sources include:

  • The Township of Bloomfield(Parks Dept)
  • Bloomfield Board of Ed
  • N.J. DEP
  • U.S. Fish & Wildlife
  • Passaic Valley Sewage Authority
  • Bloomfield College
The major goals of the FCP&TR Conservancy are education, habitat enhancement/preservation and recreation. These goals go right along with what the Hilltop Conservancy is trying to convey to the surrounding communities.

The Hilltop Conservancy wants to thank Lois, Larry and Nick for taking the time to talk to our group. It is nice to see that there are more of us out there who want to make a difference.

Meeting adjourned at 9:15pm.
