We’ve begun to clear the LAST two acres at the Hilltop’s pond forest regeneration site. We started this major project back in 2018, when we realized that the five acres of brush near Prisoner’s Pond were actually 99% infested with bush honeysuckle that had invaded an abandoned pasture. Scout troops, civic groups and lots of volunteers have contributed hundreds of hours of labor to first cut and clear this invasive species as well as dead trees from three of the five total acres, then plant and mulch ~300 native trees.
Our plan is to continue cutting and clearing throughout spring, summer and fall 2026, with the goal of planting canopy and understory trees in spring 2027.
